Match ‘em up

Although you should take the utmost care using the microphones, I’m trying to make it easier to get them returned to their proper boxes. The Neumann U87 and TLM103 shock mounts have a similar construction and I’m often resorting them to their proper boxes.  Today I etched the mic model number into the shock mount and labeled the box so that there would be less confusion. NOTE: one of the U87 shock mounts does not have a box.

Cable Wrap — bad habits

Written by jeff on . Posted in General Info No Comments

Lets get out of this habit of wrapping audio cords around objects.  This is not good on the audio cable.  First, the cable has a certain amount of memory.  Meaning that when you unwrap it, it holds the tight spiral shape. Second, the cable breaks down over time when it is bent too sharply. This stress on the cable will result in the shield not being as effective or worst yet, the signal itself will become intermittent or stop all together. (Picture is an AKG C408).
